“ Picard is not built to be a mass single-track tag fixer. Tools such as MusicBrainz Picard are available to semi-automate the process, but as they say: Media servers cannot properly handle mislabelled music. This was one step in an effort to consistently label the files, and to fix mp3 encoding and tagging errors. To get the same results that an online listener takes for granted, every album folder on our Logitech Media Server was aacgained to set the loudness levels in the ID3 headers. Stereo Tool punching through the airwaves Hans van Zutphen’s widely-used Stereo Tool, for example, can do a great job of revitalizing older music, which was often never recorded that well in the first place, given the technical limitations of yesteryear. That’s not to say this technique is necessarily a bad thing. But if used unsparingly, this can induce listener fatigue. Here, they explain the differences between Album and Track gain: LUFS = Loudness Unit Full Scaleīroadcast and internet radio doesn’t use this passive system, they boost levels using dynamic compression and limiting. (A detailed description of mp3gain can be found within this article.) All the tracks then play at similar loudness levels, so that the listener doesn’t have to constantly adjust the volume control. These can be (optionally) read during playback from the music file’s metadata tags. This feature doesn’t alter the audio quality instead, it analyses and sets Track and Album gain values. A mixed selection that can be refined using Genre criteria. When playing offline music tracks continuously, as with Logitech’s “ don’t stop the music” feature, Normalization improves the listening experience. Some tweaks to clean up my music collection. A handy DZVents script was added to clear the logfiles each night. One unwanted feature of the Domoticz Logitech plugin was that every tune played by every device was logged, and over a month or so, thousands of entries resulted. Scheduling the players used a Domoticz Blockly script for morning startup and nightly shutdown, as LMS tended to forget its wakeup settings after an update. It was synchronized to our Reception player to avoid a cacophony of sound. A 90 degree recessed flush arrangement, as on our Google Home speaker, would have been neater.ĭuring the daytime, a speaker volume of 50-60% was adequate, reduced to 35% in the quieter evenings. One slight niggle was the dc power connector, which protrudes an inch behind the speaker. (We still haven’t fully recovered from a Mercalli Grade VIII event a few years back) I couldn’t find a design to copy on the inet, so this is what I came up with using scrap wood, no fancy 3d printing for me! Mounted 10 feet above the ground More than a simple shelf was required as even a moderate earth tremor could shake it off. This speaker had to be mounted high up on an outside wall, so a bracket was needed. Google Assistant was disabled by leaving the microphones switched off, but it worked well during initial tests. It’s maybe slightly Bass light compared to the Google Home speaker, and some vocal tracks showed slight midrange distortion when listening at full volume, but the processed audio, while not exactly hifi, is quite decent, of a similar quality to the Google Home’s. Setting the speaker up in Google Home was quick and painless, and having spent a couple of days listening to the Xiaomi, can’t find much to criticize. Chromecast devices can be controlled just like any other type of Squeezelite player. That plugin, Phillipe_44‘s Chromecast Bridge, has proved to be highly popular. It employs Google Chromecast to connect to our Logitech Media Server via a third-party plugin. I am adding event schema to an entry page.As a respite from security-related items, I had decided to build a Background Music player, using PiCorePlayer on a Raspberry Pi together with a small amp and loudspeaker.īut finally went for an easier, and cheaper way to do this, using a Xiaomi Mi Smart Speaker instead.
